The 5.7L HEMI® VVT V8 with FuelSaver multi-displacement system (MDS) technology delivers exceptional performance across the board. FuelSaver MDS Technology transforms the mighty V8 into a fuel-sipping 4-cylinder, while Variable Valve Timing (VVT) controls the valves in the most efficient manner. This allows for optimal engine breathing throughout the entire rpm range to deliver valuable increased torque for towing and hauling. The Short Runner Valve (SRV) active intake manifold controls air intake flow by changing port length based on engine rpm for enhanced horsepower and torque.
Depending on the model, the legendary 5.7L HEMI VVT V8 is available with the fuel-efficient TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission or with the proven 6-speed automatic.
The 3.6L PentastarTM VVT V6 applies some of the most advanced automotive engine technologies available. Mated to the TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission, it delivers an exceptional balance of power, long-term durability, and new 5-cycle highway fuel economy rating of up to 30 mpg.
TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission – the first in a pickup. This electronic transmission features 40 different shift maps to provide optimal shifting, each tuned to varying performance requirements and driving demands. A transmission Thermal Management System optimizes the transmission fluid temperature for best efficiency and durability.
Ram 1500 is the only Light Duty truck in the industry to offer a diesel engine. The Class-Exclusive 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 pumps out 240 horsepower, unsurpassed 420 lb-ft of low-end V6 torque, delivers Best-in-Class new 5-cycle highway fuel economy of up to 35 mpg, and is biodiesel capable. Key features include a cylinder block and bedplate constructed of compact graphite iron for long-lasting durability, state-of-the-art clean-diesel technology with Selective Catalyst Reduction System and Diesel Exhaust Fluid. If exceptional low-end torque, clean and powerful isn’t enough, you can also drive up to 16,000 km between recommended oil changes for easy maintenance and a low cost of ownership. The EcoDiesel engine is truly the best of many worlds.
Mated to the 3.0L EcoDiesel is the TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission. With 40 different shift maps, it optimizes the engine's performance giving you stronger power delivery when needed and fuel economy that makes the Ram 1500 Canada's most fuel-efficient pickup.
The Segment-Exclusive 5-link coil spring rear suspension in the Ram 1500 is engineered to deliver increased comfort and better control and handling on any road surface. In addition to centralizing and helping to absorb bumps or road impact, the coil spring design is lighter and significantly reduces friction. Front and rear heavy duty shock absorbers provide more resistance during jounce (upward wheel motion) and rebound (downward wheel motion), helping you stay in control.
With a towing capacity up to 10,650 lb (4,831 kg) and payload up to 1,930 lb (875 kg), go ahead and put all your best behind you. The 2015 Ram 1500's towing abilities are compliant with the Society of Automotive Engineers J2807 towing standard. It outlines performance requirements for Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) and Trailer Weight Rating (TWR) to reflect real-world conditions that truck owners will likely experience.
The 1500 also offers a comprehensive list of towing features including an available ParkView® Rear Back-up Camera with dynamic grid lines for perfect hitch/trailer alignment, available integrated Class IV hitch receiver, standard 4- and 7-pin wiring harness, and an available integrated Trailer Brake Controller.
The Ram 1500 gives you everything you want in a truck with 3 advanced engine designs and outstanding capability, all while holding the title as Canada’s most fuel-efficient pickup . You’ll notice the fuel numbers look different for all makes of 2015 model year cars and light trucks. The federal government has implemented a new 5-cycle test method to replace the 2-cycle method. It now takes into account air conditioner usage, cold temperature operation, and higher-speed driving with more rapid braking and acceleration for more realistic fuel efficiency numbers. While the new fuel efficiency ratings are lower, actual fuel efficiency has not changed – just the way it is calculated.
Life isn't always a smooth paved road, but the Ram 1500's legendary off-road capabilities make it a non-issue. Selecting 4x4 can be as easy as pushing a button. The 4-HI setting locks both drive shafts for extra grip and pulling power to give you confident handling on slippery, wet and loose terrain. For the meanest terrain out there, the 4-LO position delivers a 2.64:1 gear reduction ratio for stump ripping, mountain climbing grip and power. With the Ram 1500's available on-demand 4x4 system all you need to do is just set it and forget it.
The 2015 Ram 1500 lets you ride on air. The available Segment-Exclusive Active-LevelTM Four-Corner Air Suspension delivers exceptional ground clearance and enhances performance and handling by offering 5 distinctive ride heights. The system reduces aerodynamic drag to help increase fuel economy, provides invaluable off-road clearance, eases getting in and out and even self-levels to keep an even profile and level headlamp aim under all loading conditions.
Claims mean nothing until they are put to a real-world test. So after going head-to-head against the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, the Ram 1500 emerged as Motor Trend’s 2015 half-ton shootout winner.
Each truck was pushed to the limits on a 418-km drive through California and Arizona, along with tests for acceleration, braking, grip, towing, payload and fuel economy. After all the points were tallied, here’s what Associate Editor Scott Evans had to say: “In the end, the Ram EcoDiesel’s excellent ride quality both loaded and empty, torquey engine, smooth and intelligent transmission, ease in towing, comfortable and refined interior, and best-in-test fuel economy proved the winning combination.”
The judges have spoken.
Ram 1500's comprehensive brake system includes 4-wheel disc antilock brakes (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) which comprises several subsystems including Brake Assist, All-Speed Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) and Trailer Sway Control. This advanced system detects trailer yaw and automatically compensates by applying selective brake pressure on the tow vehicle’s opposite side to counteract and reduce the sway.
All models include a 4-way / 7-pin trailer hitch wiring harness and connector with a convenient plug-in connection integrated into the rear bumper. It is located next to the license plate light for easy hook-up at night.
TSC recognizes a swaying trailer and automatically applies individual wheel brakes and/or reduces engine power to attempt to eliminate the trailer sway. It comes standard on the Ram 1500 and is part of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.
Begin as a concept, undergo rigorous computer-aided engineering processes, become a prototype – and then subject the vehicle to treatments far worse than you’ll ever attempt. This is how you design Canada’s longest-lasting pickup. From testing chamber to gruelling on-road trials in conditions ranging from 49ºC (120ºF) deserts to -29ºC (-20ºF) arctic climates, it’s nothing but brutal.
